PTAB Ten Years After:  Where Are We Now and Where Are We Going?

December 1, 2022
1:00 pm - 2:00 pm ET

Moderator:
Sharonmoyee Goswami, Partner, Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP and Vice-Chair of the PTAB/TTAB Committee

Panelists:
The Honorable Kevin Cherry, Administrative Law Judge, Patent Trial and Appeal Board, United States Patent and Trademark Office
Mark Taylor, Assistant General Counsel, Patent Litigation, Microsoft
Megan Raymond, Counsel, Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP and Co-Chair of the PTAB/TTAB Committee

Summary:
On September 16, 2011, Congress ushered in new proceedings to allow petitioners to contest the patentability of issued patents.  Inter Partes Reviews and Post-Grant Reviews are now common, and the impact on adversarial proceedings in the district courts, the International Trade Commission, and before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board has been dramatic.  From the initial hesitant use of IPRs and PGRs, to the full-throttle use affecting litigation, IPRs and PGRs are a part of our adversarial system.  The webinar will look backwards and provide an update of the use of IPRs and PGRs, the recent actions of the Director, and the prospect for post-grant proceedings in the future.

The PTAB/TTAB Committee of the Federal Circuit Bar Association has assembled an experienced panel
to provide this look and tackle these questions.
